Can anyone be hypnotised?
Whilst there are some people who are more susceptible than others,
everyone goes into natural states of trance every day. The only requirement
is to work in co-operation with the therapist and have an understanding
of what they need to do in order to achieve the hypnotic state. The
degree of trance state varies from person to person. Most therapy
sessions do not require more than a light trance state, which everyone
can easily achieve with gentle guidance from the therapist.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
The only people who cannot be hypnotised are those who are drunk
or those who simply don’t want to be! Being hypnotised may
feel different to how you expect it to feel, but that does not mean
you are not in hypnosis.
Is it safe? Are there any side effects?
Yes, it is completely safe. The only side effects are positive, beneficial
ones! It is using the natural power of the mind to resolve unwanted
habits or behaviour or relieve symptoms without the need for tablets
or drugs. It is non-addictive and completely safe without any unpleasant
or unwanted side effects.
Will I be in control and aware?
Yes all the time. You do not go ‘out’, ‘under’ or ‘to
sleep’. You are not unconscious. You can hear and understand
everything that is being said. Nothing happens without your consent.
You can remain in an extremely relaxed state knowing that you have
absolute control.
Will I remember what happens during sessions?
99% of people remember
everything they or the therapist said during the session.
Will my mind be interfered with, will I be made to divulge my deepest
secrets, or would I be made to cluck like a chicken?
You cannot be made to do anything that you do not think is acceptable.
You would either reject the suggestion or come out of the hypnotic
trance. Your deepest secrets will remain precisely that!
Could I stay stuck and never come out of it?
The trance state can be terminated at any time you choose just as
you chose to enter it. If you were left in a trance state by the
therapist or by hypnotic tape/CD you would return to full consciousness
on your own, in your own time, or enter a natural sleep and awaken
after a short, pleasant nap.
How many sessions will I need and how long are they?
Much will depend
on the reasons for having hypnotherapy. Often simple problems like
smoking require as little as one or two sessions, whilst
other more deeply routed problems will require more (usually 2
to 6). The therapist will want to help you in the shortest number
of
sessions possible and will be continually reviewing your progress
with you. Each session lasts approximately 1 hour.
